Ph.D. Student/Research Assistant Opportunity
A graduate research assistantship is currently available at the International Arctic Research Center and Department of Atmosphere Sciences, University of Alaska Fairbanks. The successful applicant will participate in a most recently funded NSF project to improve fundamental understanding of the recently observed rapid changes in the Arctic climate system with sea ice as a representative indication. The major research focus will be weather to climate scale atmosphere-sea ice-ocean interactions. Ideal candidate is expected to have a solid background in the fields of atmospheric science or physical oceanography. Experience with using NCAR’s Community Climate System Model (CCSM) or Weather Research and Forecasting Model (WRF) or one of other representative climate system models is desirable. The position provides a full support including a stipend at the level of about $27,000 annually, plus tuition and insurance. The starting date is negotiable, but preferably as soon as possible.
Motivated students are encouraged to apply for this position to conduct exciting and cutting-edge climate research in this project. Interested applicants should contact Dr. Xiangdong Zhang (email: xdz@iarc.uaf.edu; phone: 1-907-474-2675) by sending a recent curriculum vitae and a statement that describes the candidate’s interest in the position as well as their relevant education and experience. A follow-up application procedure will be suggested according to the university’s regulation, which would include an updated curriculum vitae, copies of degrees and transcripts of academic records, TOFEL and/or GRE scores, a statement of research experience and interest, and a list of three references familiar with the applicant qualifications.
