problems about piControl initilization

Hello,

I am planning to run a cesm2.1.3 picontrol simulation with compset named "B1850cmpi6" for about 150 years long. I wonder whether the inputdata downloaded automatically by this compset lead to a start from an absolutely cold state or an already stable state ? In other words, if I want to produce a stable quasiequilibrium climate state under 1850 conditions,
do I have to run the picontrol simulation for a long time for the model to spin up and adjust ? If so, only 150 years of simulation may not be enough. Are there any restart files accessible from a NCAR previous CMiP6 picontrol run ?

Thank you very much for your reply !

Thanks for your reply ! That's great, so I can start the picontrol simulation directly .
Hello, I have some similar questions. Can you give me some tips? Thanks in advance.

I also want to start 'B1850cmip6' from a spun-up condition. Does the default setting initial from a spun-up condition? (run_type is 'hybrid')?

In other words, in your case, does keeping the default setting (i.e. run_type is 'hybrid') mean the picontrol starts from a spun-up condition?

I have checked my B1850cmip6 case, but the default setting is :
./xmlquery RUN_TYPE
RUN_TYPE: startup
I wonder why your run_type is hybrid?

For compset B1850cmip6, resolution f09_g17, the default setting is 'hybrid'.
But for resolution f19_g17, it seems that the default setting is 'startup'.

No. run_type=hybrid is the setting for starting from spun-up conditions.
So, for resolution f19_g17, I should change the run_type to hybrid? But for hybrid run, it will need to set RUN_REFCASE manually. How can I set it to start from spun-up conditions.

It does seem like a spun up start should be available for this compset and grid. I'll look into it and get back to you.

Try the following settings for spunup initial conditions at f19_g17
./xmlchange GET_REFCASE=TRUE
./xmlchange RUN_TYPE=hybrid
./xmlchange RUN_REFCASE=b.e21.B1850.f19_g17.CMIP6-piControl-2deg.001
./xmlchange RUN_REFDATE=0281-01-01

I also learned that if you use compset B1850 instead of B1850cmip6 you get a hybrid case with a spun up initial condition.

Hello, your advice works! I have tried the settings above and the model can run normally. Thank you very much.
I wonder what is the difference between compset B1850 and B1850cmip6?
Because we want to compare model output with the public CMIP6 data, I think B1850cmip6 is more suitable.

Hello, is there any RUN_REFDATE longer than 0281-01-01 for this case? Such as RUN_REFDATE=0500-01-01 or longer.

There are four reference dates available for this case:
0321-01-01
0281-01-01
0211-01-01
0131-01-01
