Modifying initial snow mass

Hi everyone,


I am wondering if anyone has done the modification of the initial snow mass (snow water equivalent) in a CLM restart file. My purpose is to run sensitive experiments to test the response of the atmospheric circulation to the reduction/increse in early-spring snow mass. 

It's noted that CLM has a strict limit on the water balance. I tried changing the snow water (H2OSNO in the CLM restart file) directly and then added/removed same value to/from the unconfined water mass (WA in the CLM restart file), with the intention to maintian water balance. This still resulted in large inbalance in the water balance. The error message from the CLM log file looks like blow. Could someone help me on this matter? Thanks.
