ocean downscaling using CESM atmospheric forcing

Hello-,

I am trying to run an ocean model (ROMS) using atmospheric forcing from CESM.

ROMS uses 10 meter wind vector (u and v components) to calculate wind stress internally. I searched

the CESM dataportal and only find wind speed at 10m (called "u10"). My question is: is there a way

to extrapolate the wind vector (u and v) from CAM's 1st level down to 10m? I could use the ratio between

"u10" and wind speed at the 1st model level to scale the u and v from the model's 1st level. Not sure if

this is a good idea... I'd appreciate any input!

Best,

Wei
