Are there true land cover BC files for years after 2005 in CESM

Hi,
I 'd like to model the hydrological response of greening in a specific area from 2000 to 2020. And the true 2020 land cover condition is necessary in my research. But I only found the true land cover BC files between 1850-2005. Are there true land cover BC files for years after 2005 conform to drive the CLM4 in CESM (and which are not based on the future RCP scenarios)?
Thanks!

I think you mean 1850-2015 (not 2005). Unless the data stop in 2005 for CLM4, which is not a supported version of the model.

We started supplying data out to 2023 with ctsm5.3.

Hi Slevis,

Thanks for your reply.
Sure, I need the data used for CLM4. I have found the 'landuse.timeseries_0.9x1.25_hist_16pfts_simyr1850-2015_c170428.nc' file, if I understand correctly, this file is for CLM5 but not for CLM4, how can I convert it to a file that is for CLM5? And is there any 2020 surface data file directly for CLM4?

Thank you very much and have a good day!

I'm not aware of any 2020 surface data for CLM4, other than picking data from an RCP.

Sorry, there is a mistake. Making corrections, 'how can I convert it to a file that is for CLM4?'

We can't really provide much information here since CLM4 is no longer supported. You could try running CLM4 with that file, see what errors you get, and then formulate fixes for them.

OK, thank you! I will have a try as you said.

Hi,

I have tried many times as you suggested using the input files applicable to CLM5 to run the CLM4 model. But they were failed.

Now I plan to get percents of different PFTs (CFTs), MONTHLY_LAI and MONTHLY_SAI values of year 2015 from the files applicable to CLM5 modeling(which updated till 2015), and do a replacement for the year 2000 inputdata file that is suitable for CLM4 simulation.

I have found files such as the following:

(1) '/glade/p/cesmdata/cseg/inputdata/lnd/clm2/surfdata_map/landuse.timeseries_0.9x1.25_hist_16pfts_simyr1850-2015_c170228.nc'
I can easily get the percents of PFTs(CFTs) of year 2015 (transfer it from CLM5 format to CLM4 format) using this file. But the monthly LAI/SAI variables are not existed in this file. How can I get the MONTHLY_LAI and MONTHLY_SAI values for different pfts(cfts)? Could you tell me where are the input files for LAI/SAI for CLM5 simulation stored? Thank you!

(2)'/glade/p/cesmdata/cseg/inputdata/lnd/clm2/surfdata_esmf/ctsm5.2.0/surfdata_0.9x1.25_hist_16pfts_CMIP6_1850-2015_c231103.nc'
This file is not a yearly varying file. Is it a file describing the mean state (for different variables) between 1850-2015? If so, I think this file is not what I want.

What can I do more? Do you have some advice? Thank you very much!

Best regards,
Fen

1) Look in the simulation's fsurdat file for these variables.
2) This is likely the file that you want for (1). We do not provide transient values of LAI and SAI. We only provide transient values of percents of PFTs/CFTs.

Thanks for your time and patience!
And I also have a question. In my case, I used the CLM40%SP (Satellite Phenology) mode. I know the total LAI value for any gridcell is certainly changing between years and be obtained from the surfdata input file. But for the same gridcell/location and month, do LAI values for different PFTs change with the year? Or are they fixed?

Thanks!
