Hello there!
I'm trying to calculate the residence time of atmospheric aerosols, which variables from the CESM1.2 output should I use?
I've learned that I can calculate residence time from both emission and removal perspectives, but I'm not sure how to do it.
Thank you in advance!

Hi Illiopon,

You can find all the available output species that you could ask to be saved in a run by looking at the atmospheric log file of your build and finding the MASTER FIELD LIST heading. Here is an example of the list for one instance of a model setup:

You will see there are surface fluxes, dry deposition and wet deposition parameters for the multiple aerosol species.
Some general format is described here:

This paper has more information on aerosol species in the model: https://doi.org/10.1029/2019MS001827

Hope that helps!

Best,
Rebecca
