About aerosol indirect effect

hello everyone:
If the cam3.1 can not caculate the aerosol indirect effect now? if this is not supported now?when I set the parameter "indirect" to .true.,the error is happen,just as: ENDRUN:AEROSOL_INDIRECT: indirect effect is obsolete
Aborted.
At the same time,if I want to do a aerosol modeling,Should I set the parameter prognostic_sulfur 'direct' or prescribed_sulfur 'direct'(default)? If the default modeling contain each species aerosol impact on temperature?
please give me a hand,Thanks!

I believe that the aerosol indirect effect is not yet included in CAM.

To do aerosol modeling, I'll repeat what Rich Neale said in another post.

Running CAM with prescribed aerosols: reads aerosol masses from a data set (monthly averages from a climatology produced by MATCH, an offline aerosol model).

Running CAM with prognostic aerosols: reads surface emissions, advects the aerosols, performs physical processes (convective transport, chemistry, scavenging, deposition, etc)

The aerosol mass (either from the prescribed data set or the prognostic mixing ratios) are used in the radiation calculation.

The default is that prescribed aerosols are direct (that is, the masses are used by the radiation) for all aerosol groups (sulfur, carbon, dust, sea salt & volcanic).

CAM3.1 only has prognostic capabilites for the sulfur group. If you set
prognostic_sulfur = 'direct'
prescribed_sulfur = 'passive'

then the radiation will use prognostic sulfur for the radiation but will still use prescribed aerosols for all the other groups.

Dear bundy:
Thanks for you help very much,Now I knew more about cam3.1 aerosol modeling and the difference between prescribed_sulfur and prognostic_sulfur.Thanks again.
