Hello, I noticed that there are three variables in the GCM of cmip6: sfcwind, vas, and uas. I would like to ask about the relationship between these three variables. Can I use VAS and UAS to calculate sfcwind through some calculations
I think sfcwind is the 10-m wind and the uas and vas are the components of that wind. The sfcwind corresponds to the variable U10 in the model, but I'm not sure what uas and vas are. I think sqrt(uas^2 + vas^2) is equal to sfcwind, but I'm not positive. I'm moving this post to Community Projects where I think @strandwg could confirm this.
