Hello all- I am a new user to WACCM/CAM/CESM and I am interested in modeling the spatial distribution of alumina emitted during space debris reentries. As such, I am interested in adding alumina as an emission source, specifying the time, location, altitude, particle size and number.
Could someone walk me through how I can add a new aerosol emission to CAM?
I understand I need to add an emission file to ext_frc_specifier and also add Al2O3 as a species under SOLUTION in the chem_mech.in. However, I am not sure how to specify the particle size distribution in the description of the alumina emission. It appears that black carbon emissions are split between num_a4 which describes the particle distribution and bc_a4.
I also do not understand how WACCM/CAM handles gravitational settling and coagulation, which are properties I hope to specify for alumina.
I am also interested in adding in the radiative forcing properties of alumina, but am confused on how to do so. I am not sure how the MAM-4 model receives data and processes it, and thus, I am not sure if I need to write a new module to the MAM-4 code.
Thank you for the help!
