Aerosol indirect effect in default CESM1.2

Dear all, I have some questions about the component sets in CESM1.2. I am wondering whether F_AMIP_CAM5 uses the active MAM3? I checked the cam_inputdata_list, the rad_climate uses 3 modes of MAM3 data. Does that mean the aerosols are prescribed in this component set? So there will be no indirect effect of aerosol? And the CCN in output file won't be affected by aerosols? If this is true, which component set should I use to turn on the aerosol effect? Should I use those include MAM ones? like F_2000_MOZMAM_CN? Thanks a lot,Harry

Hi Harry, all CAM5 compsets run with active MAM3 (or MAM4/7) and include the aerosol indirect effect. The compset F_2000_MOZMAM_CN in addition includes full tropospheric chemistry, which will also impact aerosols, but probably not what you are interested it, Cheers, Simone

Hi Simone     If I use CAM5 but change the aerosol scheme from MAM3 to bulk, will the simulations still calculate the aerosol indirect and direct effect? Rescently, I have done such an experiment and set the chem_rad_passive to false, but it still need to prescribed aerosol data file to make it work. Does it means that after I've changed the aerosol scheme, my simulation  will read the prescribed aerosol data to calculate radiation effect instead of predicated ones?
