aerosol optical depth

Hi ForumI am using E compset. I wanted to see the aerosol optical depth from the history files (*cam2.h0*).I found the following variable : AEROD_v(time, lat, lon)The optical depth is not available from 70N to 90N. Only the fillvalue 1e+36 is appended. The same holds true for many other variablesI have attached a plot of the same. Please give me some other way to access aerosol optical depth in that region. Thank you very much

Hi, I am having the same confusion here. The aerosol optical depth and aerosol burden are masked in polar regions, and I am wondering why? Thanks.

In case someone is interested and to answer my previous question: the values of aerosol optical depth are masked in polar regions when there is no solar radiation exists (polar night), and have values otherwise.
