Hello to members of the AMWG!
I hope that most of you have noticed that we have firm dates for our
Annual AMWG meeting. It will be March 20th-22nd, and will overlap with
the new Chemistry-Climate working group (CCWG) meeting that will be held on
March 22nd-24th.
Our plan is to have between a half and full day of overlap and joint
sessions with the CCWG. We currently envisage spending those session
discussion current progress and near term prospects for changing the
cloud microphysical and aerosol formulations in CAM. We hope that you
will plan to attend this joint session, and we will make sure that you
are notified of the agenda for CCWG as well, when it is ready.
This email is to solicit suggestions for agenda items for the
non-overlapping components of the AMWG meeting. Historically, this
meeting is the opportunity for individuals to present their work in
some detail to other members of the AMWG through brief 15 minute
talks. We anticipate that this occuring again at the meeting.
We are also interested some broader more over-arching issues. Some of
the topics that might merit discussion are:
1) the future of alternate dynamical cores in CAM
2) Suggestions on alternate cloud fraction parameterizations for CAM
and means to evaluate their performance.
3) progress on improving the transient variability of CAM (ENSO,
diurnal variation, etc)
4) current status of the development versions of CAM. Presentation of
the deadlines and schedules required to produce the next generation
of CAM. Requests for suggestions from the audience on how to make
progress more rapidly and equitably in developing the next
generation CAM.
5) the use of short term climate drifts and forecasts as a tool in guiding the
development of CAM.
These are just topics that come to my (PJR's) mind. I welcome your
suggestions on topics, or on ways that we might organize the meeting
to make it as productive and enjoyable as possible. Please send me
your suggestions.
I will send out a call for abstracts for talks/posters seperately in
the next week or so. Please do not send them to me yet informally. I
am liable to lose them!
Best Regards
Phil Rasch
