Are CH4, N2O, CFC-11 and CFC-12 prognostic constituents in WACCM?

Hi all, I'm currently working on the output of Specified Chemistry WACCM (SC-WACCM) and original CESM1 WACCM (output from ESD CCSM run b40.1850.track1.2deg.wcm.007).From documentation of SC-WACCM (smith et al. [2014]), found that in SC-WACCM, CH4, N2O, CFC-11 and CFC-12 are all prognostic constituents which has specified concentration at the surface and calculated vertical profile using the loss rate from Garcia and Solomon two-dimensional model. My question is,whether (original) WACCM has fully interactive chemistry for these species rather than specifying the concentration at the surface and simply calculating loss rate as in SC-WACCM? Thank you,Shim

Hi Shim, all current WACCM versions prescribe these greenhouse gases as concentrations at the surface. However, much more comprehensive chemistry in WACCM results in chemical changes of these species in the atmosphere.Simone
