Atmospheric forcing with my own data set

Hi all,
I like to use my own atmospheric forcing for my ICompset simulation on CLM5. I attempted following the guide on http://www.cesm.ucar.edu/models/ces.../doc/UsersGuide/x12979.html#own_force_streams but the first challenge I faced was that I did not locate ./link_dirtree as specified in the guide. I resulted to editing the stream files generated by building my case with the files and path of my atmospheric forcing data. I submitted my case and found out that upon running ./case.submit, the stream files got reset to default thereby erasing every change I made on it.
Kindly help with any tip that could help me achieve this my set goal.
