Calculating Surface Temperature (TS) or surface temperature at reference height (Tref) from initial file (.i File)

Hi,  I am trying to obtain Surface Temperature (TS) or surface temperature at reference height (Tref) from the .i initial file for diagnositic reasons. Yet the I files in cam4 contains only air temperature. I wonder how the CAM4 transforms the data from air temperature into surface temperature?

TS is the actual surface temperature as defined by the top ice/land/ocean model level temperature output. 
SST is the actual surface temperature as defined by the ocean model level temperature output. 
These are passed to CAM from the other components through the coupler. TS and SST should be the same if you have a grid box with ocean only.
