can mortalilty rate or litterfall rate of evergereen tree change with drought?

Hi,all! Recently i made a experiment ,to find  how drought affect carbon-nitrogen cycle at a evergreen needle leaf  forest ,by reducing the rain in atmosphere frocing data.Compared to the actual rain ,drought can reduce the carbo stock of leaf, froot, and wood. However, while the litterfall of leaf and froot and litterfall of wood increased.I think this can not explained by code in CLM,which show litterfall of leaf and froot equals the carbon stock of leaf and froot multipled by a constant backgroungd litterfall rate,so did the litterfall of wood. The value of annual sum  of wood's litterfall divided by annual mean of wood's carbon stock is larger than 2% defined in the code of CLM in the drought year. When checked the code , i didn't find any sign of water stress influncing the litterfall rate or mortality rate, but why did the results show it ?  Thanks for anynone give me some direction.
