CCM3 Restart File.

Dear CCM3 (and CAM3) users,

I would like to know how to see the inside of a CCM3 restart file (e.g., ccmr_yyyymmdd_sssss; yyyy=year; mm=month; dd=day; and sssss=seconds). Is there any way I can read the data from a restart file? Please let me know. Thank you very much for your assistance.

Sincerely yours,

hiro

This is not an easy thing to do. What are you trying to achieve exactly?

Dear Richard,

Thank you very much for your reply. I need to read the data from a 5-days run of a CCM3-based model. In this case, we need to access to a restart file, since there is not initial and output data file at this point.

Sincerely yours,

hiro

Dear hiro,
you can output daily data using second history(not monthly default)
and output it daily
using say
FINCL2,NHTFRQ(2),MFILT(2)

It will be virtually impossible to read a history file from a very old version of CCSM as they are unformatted binary and you will have to know the exact formatting of the data to recover anything meaningful

Let me know if I can dig out any initial files from the run you are interested in
