CEMS1-LENS

Dear all, Now I am comparing the coupled and uncoupled model results from CESM1-CAM5-BGC large ensemble experiments. The one I find is that f.e11.F1850C5CNTVSST.f09_f09.002 which is described as the AMIP-style run with only time-varying forcings being SST and sea ice specified from the PI control (b.e11.B1850C5CN.f09_g16.005) starting at year 401 on the website. Besides this, I can not find any other related manuals.
According to the above description, the SST or TS (over the ocean) should be the same between these two experiments. But I find that it is true for monthly outputs, negative for daily outputs shown in attached figures.
So could you please help me to find out how the model run f.e11.F1850C5CNTVSST.f09_f09.002, is it forced by daily SST output from b.e11.B1850C5CN.f09_g16.005 for forcing daily run, and monthly SST output for forcing monthly run? or does it interpolated in time before running the AMIP run?
Thanks,Zhen-Qiang Zhou

Hi Zhen-Qiang,
Sorry for the lack of explanation on this.  It is only the monthly mean SSTs that have been prescribed in this simulation and so you shouldn't expect the SST's to match on a daily basis, only on a monthl y mean basis.  The model performs a linear interpolation between mid-month values.  These mid-month values have been obtained from the monthly average output from the coupled control run along with the time-diddling procedure (http://www-pcmdi.llnl.gov/projects/amip/AMIP2EXPDSN/BCS/amip2bcs.php) that ensures that the monthly mean SST of the simulation run in this way is the same as the monthly mean input.  Thanks for pointing this out and we will make it clearer on the website. Best wishes,Isla
