CESM Machine files for Yellowstone

Dear all,

In CESM model code package, four files (or some sections in these files) regarding the hardware and software environment were provided for Bluefire (config_machines.xml, config_pes.xml, Macros.bluefire, and mkbatch.bluefire). Since the transition from Bluefire to Yellowstone is coming soon, I wonder if the same files for Yellowstone will be provided. Does anyone know about it or already running CESM on Yellowstone?

Best regards,

Koichi

Hello Koichi

I'm actually NOT the best person to answer this question. Jim Edwards and/or Mariana Vertenstein would be the best.

But, the answer is that the plan is to release CESM1.0.5 -- which will JUST be the update to run on Yellowstone. And the release of CESM1.1 will also include the ability to run on yellowstone. Since, yellowstone is generally available and bluefire is still active it isn't an issue yet. But, I know it will be, and it's on people's minds now...

Hello Erik,

Thank you for your response. The release of CESM1.0.5 together with Yellowstone sounds great.
Then we can look at the machine files in it to get general ideas for the Yellowstone environment.

I am concerned with this, probably as many other users you noted, because I have one project that started last year using cesm1.0.3, and I still need to run several branch runs from these cesm1.0.3. simulations. My guess/hope is that I can basically copy the relavant environment setting for Yellowstone from cesm1.0.5. machine files to my cesm1.0.3 files.

Thanks again for your help.

Best,

Koichi
