change dust values in SCAM6

1) In SCAM6, any time I change the dust_emis_fact the system hangs. (A normal run of a few minutes hasn't ended after hours.) I change the namelist value in change_scam6_iop, and it is reflected in the user file after a crashed run. It hangs no matter which value I set it to. I have no problems running SCAM6 otherwise.
2) I changed the netCDF input file for the soil erosion. I made significant global changes, but the temperatures in ARM97 didn't change at all (for 7 significant figures.)
3) Related to this, in the Fortran code for CARMA, it says "! These dust are not currently radiatively active and do not replace the dust in CAM." (carma_model_mod.F90 on Line 4.) Is dust never radiatively active in SCAM6? What aspects of CAM "do not replace"?
