changing land surface type

Hi all,

I'm trying to do an integration of the CAM with a homogeneous surface type to compare with the heterogeneous default surface, and I want to make sure I'm approaching this the right way. Right now my plan was to replace data/lnd/clm2/inidata_2.1/cam/clmi_0000-09-01_64x128_T42_USGS_c030609.nc with a file that has all land points identical to each other. My thought was just to choose some "average" land point, and set all the others equal to that.

Is this the right way to do this, or am I missing something about the way the land surface works?

Thanks,
.brian
