CIME: passing new fields between components

Do the instructions for passing new fields between components in the CESM_1_2 User Guide apply for CESM1.5.5, which uses CIME?That is, in the CESM 1.2 User Guide FAQS section, there is the subject heading: 
"DRIVER: How do I pass in new fields between components?" Thanks,Chaincy
