CLM is not finishing a run because of history files

Hello,

I wanted to follow up on the issue that CLM is not closing the primary history file and runs indefinitely (Sparse grid simulation with PPE.n12_ctsm5.1.dev030 fails when trying to close h5 file at end of simulation. · Issue #1449 · ESCOMP/CTSM).

A fix for this is to split output into daily files (one day per file): branch_tags/PPE.n12_ctsm5.1.dev030 case runs indefinitely

Unfortunately, I have a case where splitting output into daily files does not work, and CLM runs indefinitely:
/glade/scratch/elkoukah/PPEn12CTSM51_swna_4km_conus404_reference.base_001/run/

if I changed frequency into yearly and split output into one year per file, the case surprisingly works! Could you please help me fix this when you can. This error occurs on the ctsm5.2.mksurfdata branch.
