CTSM5.2 compset and setup for transient land cover

Hello,

I would like to inform about the different compsets and related required spinup. I want to run simulations for the period of ~1990-2015, and I focus on crops so I am interested in the transient landcover maps. Now, following this thread: information-required-in-the-clm5-spinup-procedure, I assumed I need the IHistClm50BgcCrop compset rather than the I2000Clm50BgcCrop compset, but I am not sure if I am using it correctly. I'm using CTSMv5.2 and I only spin up +/- 10 years, so starting in 1980.

My set up is as follows:
compset: IHistClm50BgcCrop
RUN_STARTDATE=1980-01-01
DATM_YR_ALIGN=1980
DATM_YR_START=1980
DATM_YR_END=2015

Since I run in CTSM5.2, I have the following inputdatasets:
fsurdat = 'inputdata/lnd/clm2/surfdata_esmf/ctsm5.2.0/surfdata_1.9x2.5_hist_1850_78pfts_c240216.nc'
flanduse_timeseries = 'inputdata/lnd/clm2/surfdata_esmf/ctsm5.2.0/landuse.timeseries_1.9x2.5_SSP2-4.5_1850-2100_78pfts_c240216.nc'
finidat = 'inputdata/lnd/clm2/initdata_esmf/ctsm5.2/clmi.I2000Clm50BgcCrop.2011-01-01.1.9x2.5_gx1v7_gl4_simyr2000_c240223.nc'

Can you please let me know if this is correct or not? Or do I need more spinup time? Also, I see that there are more finidat files, related to 1850 (- Revision 69156: /trunk/inputdata/lnd/clm2/initdata_esmf/ctsm5.2), should I take one of those instead?

Best regards,
Shannon

Your setup seems correct.

If this finidat came up automatically, then it's the one that we recommend for this type of case. This does not mean it's the best choice for all applications. You may consider starting in 1850 with the finidat recommended for that year and generating your own finidat file for 1980. This may also help you answer the question whether you are satisfied with the spin-up or you need more or even a new spin-up.
