daily minimum/maximum temperature

To whom it may concern:

CESM or CCSM4 can output daily minimum temperature or daily maximum temperature. I would like to know does daily minimum/maximum is derived from hourly temperature or 3 hourly or 6 hourly? When I run CESM1, I output every 3 hourly output in addition to daily maximum. Does this affect the derivation method of daily minimum/maximum temperature?

Thanks

The variables:TSMN: Minimum surface temperature over output periodTSMX: Maximum surface temperature over output periodIt is computed on a timestep basis. For instance, if your timestep is 30 minutes and you output daily TSMX.

TSMX will be the maximum temperature of any timestep during that day.
