daily minimum/maximum temperature

To whom it may concern:

CESM or CCSM4 can output daily minimum temperature or daily maximum temperature. I would like to know does daily minimum/maximum is derived from hourly temperature or 3 hourly or 6 hourly? When I run CESM1, I output every 3 hourly output in addition to daily maximum. Does this affect the derivation method of daily minimum/maximum temperature?

Thanks

CSEG and Liaisons
If you're referring to atm temperatures, CAM computes max/min field values at each model timestep (typically 1800 seconds).

The output of fields at different frequencies, and different averaging periods, are done using separate buffers to store values, and are all completely independent of one another.
