Definition of clearsky in CAM output

I am running CCSM3 and would like to know how clearsky as in clearsky shortwave radiation at TOA is defined in the output from CAM. Are changes in cloudiness taken into account at all?

Thanks,
Yongxin

Radiation is calculated assuming any clouds in the column are overlapped in a maximum random way. Any remaining fraction of the column that does not contain is considered in a separate clearsky calculation.
