Equivalent heating rate(convective and radiative) for idealized model

Hi,I am recently trying to run the idealized physics model (Held Suarez model) which simplifize the radiationa and convection to be a temperature relaxation term. To do some perturbation tests, I want the climatology of this model to look like some full GCM model output. However, no matter relax temperature only or relax temperature and wind fields together to the full GCM climatology with various relaxation time scale, the simple toy model had a difficulty to reproduce the climatology in full GCM, which is also understandable because the simple model just treat all these relaxation as a source of wave. But I want to give it another try by replacing the relaxation term in idealized model with the total heating rate in full GCM (convective + radiative + other reaction, diffusion and flux caused heating). Since I am quite new to running CESM, I will be grateful if some of you, experts, could give me some suggestion which variable I should look into, and if this try is likely to work. Thank you very much! Best,Wanying
