Gravity wave drag module

Hello everyone.I am new to climate modeling and is working on GW drag parameterization. I have studied the GW module in CAM and want to know the basis for taking the number of gravity waves spectrum as zero while in WCAM it is taken as 32. What changes one might expect if he increases the number of gravity waves in CAM model. Does the westerly bias further reduce?
