Heat budget from history files

Hi,

Im trying to do an approximate heat budget to calculate the terms
that contribute to dT/dt near the surface. Does anyone know what combination of terms I
needto use (from the default cam2 history files) to get close to a balanced
budget.

Alex,

The fields that should be on the history files are:

DTCOND, QRS, QRL, DTH, and DTV.

DTCOND - Precipitation physics tendency
QRS - Solar heating rate
QRL - Longwave heating rate
DTH - Horizontal diffusion tendency
DTV - Vertical diffusion tendency

DUH - U horizontal diffusive heating (may not be on history file)
DVH - V horizontal diffusive heating (may not be on history file)

(all in units of K/s)

However, the adiabatic tendency (e.g., advection) is not included. Likewise, if you're
interested in the details of "DTCOND", not all of the contributing terms are available
