history file output frequency

I'm having a bit of a problem with the CLM history file output frequency. I'm trying to write out the history files at 3 hour intervals (hist_nhtfrq = -3), and I'd like it to start a new file at every month. But it looks to me like I can only specify the output frequency as the number of time steps (e.g., hist_mfilt0 = 240, or 30days*8outputs/day), but then there is a drift in the start date of the history file over time. Is there any way to specify hist_mfilt0 such that there is a new history file on the first day of the month?

Hi all,

The CLM3.0 distribution is available with building instructions only for Portland
(pgf90) and Lahey (lf95) Linux Fortran commercial compilers. I've been trying to
build CLM3.0 using Intel Linux Fortran (ifort) Compiler with no success thus far. I'd
appreciate any kind of help from anyone who had done that successfully.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know of a way to ask for monthly file frequency where each file contains sub-monthly data. As an alternative you could collect the output in daily or in annual files instead of monthly. Sorry...
