Dear All,

I wanted to run CESM "FHIST" using daily SST input. Can anyone please suggest me how can I set up the run? Or Is there any tutorial available explaining the modification required in oder to run CESM compset=FHIST using daily SST input.

Thank you.

Hi Cheryl,
Thank you for your reply and sharing the links. I went through the presentation by Cecile. Very nice presentation explaining the details about how to run the model, increase output variable frequency and add new variables in the output list. However I could not find how to run CAM using daily SST (daily input), which was my question. Sorry if I missed it in the presentation. Can you please point the slide number in Cecile's presentation if you do not mind.

Thanks,
Bidyut

Sorry - I missed that you specified "input" and I gave you the reply for "output". I will need to defer your question to someone else.

As far as I know the model should be able to handle this. You need to provide data in the same format as the current SSTs dataset. If given the right name, CAM will interpolate whether it is monthly and daily.
I did some runs with the daily Reynolds SSTs.

Hello, hannay. I also want to provide daily SST forcing for FHIST, how should I do it? Can you give me some advice?Looking foward to your reply!

Hi @Joey Wong , I did not pursue this (I mean, running the model with daily SST forcing).
It was not clear to me when Hannay said "If given the right name". Also, I did not understand whether I should use different files for sea-ice and SST since I wanted to force with daily SST but monthly sea-ice (like default FHIST forcing file).

But I did not follow up and ask for further help since I realized monthly SST would suffice for the work I was doing.

Sorry I could not help.
Thanks for your message ... I would be interested to know what experts suggest.

Best,
Bidyut

I think you can run with daily SST in the same way that you run with monthly SST, if you point the model toward your file that contains the daily SST data instead using the variable . I think this is what Hannay meant by "given the right name". i.e., set SSTICE_DATA_FILENAME to the path that contains your daily SST file. You'll also need to make sure to set SSTICE_YEAR_ALIGN, SSTICE_YEAR_START, and SSTICE_YEAR_END correctly.

Hi @Indrani
I could use daily forcing for F2000climo simulation.
I used cdo to split the monthly input to daily inputs ("cdo -splitmon" to create 12 files from the original input; and then created 31 copies of the Jan file, 28 copies of the Feb file, 31 Copies of March file, and so on and then merged all the files).
I know it is not the best way but I served my purpose.
Hope it helps.
