How does CAM run with the same domain file when coupled to CLM

Hello everyone,

I'm running CESM2 using the compset FHIST. I noticed that both CAM and CLM in the simulation would use the domain file "domain.lnd.fv0.9x1.25_gx1v7.151020.nc". However, in that domain.lnd file, it seems that all ocean grid cells are set to be inactive (the value of frac equals 0). Given the CAM outputs do include values for the ocean grid cells, I wonder how CAM handles the simulations over those grid cells?

Thank you!

CAM doesn't have non-active grid cells. I think CAM just uses these domain files to figure out how to communicate to the surface models. Maybe that is too superficial an answer, though. Let us know if you're really asking something else.
