How model initialized from ncdata?

Hi!I am feeling very confused about how model is initialized, and am grateful to any suggestion and guideline! Thank you in advance!First Question: I was trying to initialize the idealized-physics model(Held-Suarez experiment) with a specific initial condition, but I found that even if I gave the model a symmetric IC, the model did not maintain this symmetry... I am curious if this is related to how model spin up from 'ncdata'. Will they do some adjustment to the IC before really start to integrate? If so, how can I get rid of this and let the model start integrating exactly from my IC?Second Question: Still about the idealized model. I replaced some of the variables in IC with some other model output, but the model report "Lagrangian levels are crossing" before even start integrating, i.e., there is no nstep=0 in atm.log.xxxxxx file. Does this mean there is something wrong with my IC? What is the requirement for generate a right IC?Thank you!! Wanying

I don't believe any of the dynamical cores (Eulerian, FV, SE) guarantees symmetry.  Eulerian might if tracers are not involved.
