So, I have been trying to calculate the net radiation from the CLM5 output. I tried (FSA-FIRA) where FSA is the absorbed solar radiation and FIRA is the net infrared(longwave) radiation. The results I got highly underestimate the net radiation compared to the literature data. Is it the right way to to calculate net radiation? Also, does CLM5 give the direct values of net radiation?

Seems correct to me. May help to break it down further to see where the underestimation comes from. For example you should get the same result from:
Rnet = FSDS - FSR + FLDS - FIRE (please check my math in case I got any signs wrong)

I looked in one of my history files and did not find Rnet. In case it happens to be an "inactive" history field, you could look for it in the code using "grep".
