How to modify CESM land restart file for a particular region?

Dear All,I am using CESM v1.2.1 and CLM4.0 as my land component. I now have two CLM restart files generated from routine model runs - for the first one I hope to keep it as it is. For the second one, I hope to modify its fields only for a rectangular region (say within 0-10N, 10-20E, I have another set of realistic restart fields generated from another model run). However, the fields that I hope to modify (say snow depth in my case) are indexed by "columns" but not "lat lon". I wonder if anyone knows how to complete this procedure? Or does anyone have a script to draw the spatial map from directly reading the restart file? Any explanation on how the data is organized will help me not crashing the model. Thanks very much in advance,Peirong
