How to run CESM2 with monthly prescribed surface albedo? (albedo includes land, ocean, sea-ice,...)

Hello everyone,

I want to run CESM with monthly prescribed surface albedo (1.0 degree * 1.0 degree). This surface albedo is the total albedo (VIS+NIR diffuse and VIS+NIR direct). This monthly albedo is from EAR 5 reanalysis covering land, ocean, sea-ice, ...... How do I set up the CESM? What compset should I use? What modules and subroutines should I modify? How do I set the monthly prescribed surface albedo as inputs?

Thank you very much.

Best,

Andy

In addition. we need to consider the sea-ice fraction, right? That means we need a prescribed sea-ice fraction run, correct? Thanks

This is tricky, because the land and sea ice are prognostic in the F compset. So, it is not so easy to fix the albedo. There a specialized compsets for CAM like:

FDABIP04
FHS94
FKESSLER
FTJ16
FADIAB

and the aquaplanet compsets. These use stub ice and land. However, I don't think this is what you want. Your only option would be to modify the CLM and CICE code to override the computation of the albedos. Definitely not a supported configuration.
