How to set up my own initial input datasets

I am thinking to use calculated soil moisture climatology as input to CAM3-CLM3 model. The initial volumetric water content is just one of datasets in the initial input file. How can I just change volumetric water content and keep other inputs unchanged? Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks,
