HPROGCLD output variable

I have altered CAM3.0 source code in aquaplanet so that the radiation code does not "see" any cloud cover, and I output the variable HPROGCLD to look at heating from prognostic clouds. I expected the clouds to heat the atmosphere slightly, however they instead cooled it. While this may be correct, I am wondering if there may be something wrong with the calculation of HPROGCLD as well.

Is there anyplace, other than the CAM users guide, where I could get more information about the variable HPROGCLD? Where is it calculated in source code?

Has anybody looked at this variable and seen what they expected?

Thanks,
Cathy

You should familiarize yourself with the online documentation,
which admittedly needs more advertising. There is a source code browser
that will let you find the variable quite easily.

Here are the steps:
1) go to the CAM web page at
http://www.ccsm.ucar.edu/models/atm-cam/

2) look around at all the goodies.

3) click on the URL that says "source code browser"

4) click on the Eulerian model entry (although the others would also find
your entry).

5) in the upper left window scroll down to the search area and enter HPROGCLD

6) in the lower left window look at your search results.

Good luck.
