Huge differences in model throughput between CESM 1.0.6 and CESM 1.2.2

Hi all, I recently ported CESM 1.2.2 to our local cluster to run some simple fully coupled experiments. The local cluster has 12 nodes which have 64GB RAM and 12 cores each. Due to the limitation of resources, the best we can do is to use 4 CPUs on each of the 12 nodes, which gives us 48 PEs in total.  The experiment is a B_1850_CN configuration with f19_g16 resolution. The throughput we got is a painful 0.17 simulated years per day. However, when I use the earlier version of CESM 1.0.6  on the same cluster to run the exact same case with the exact same PE layout, the throughput is improved to 3.9 simulated years per day. I'm just wondering if anyone has observed such different performances between two versions of the model on machines similar to our cluster? What could be the reason for nearly 20 times the throughput difference between these two model versions? Thanks in advance!Hui
