iCESM1.2 Sea-ice not extending south of 40N

Hi all,

Reposting here from the paleoclimate forum.

I am using iCESM1.2 to do atmosphere-only experiments with prescribed SST's and sea-ice. I am running into an issue where sea-ice will not extend equatorward of 40N or 40S. Any values poleward of 40N/40S are being implemented correctly, and the model runs well otherwise. I'm attaching a figure of the sea-ice forcing file, and trefht and icefrac output.

Is there a setting that can be changed to extend prescribed sea-ice past 40N?

If this is what the icefrac is in your SST-IFRAC file, then you have to change it there.

The the left (ice cov prediddle) is the input in the initial file, and icefrac (central image) and tref (right) is from the output after running

Sorry, adding more info:

The the left (ice cov prediddle) is the input in the initial SST-IFRAC file, and icefrac (central image) and tref (right) is from the output after running. All images are from the same run.

Does something need to be changed between the initial file and what the model reads in?
