initial files for CN and CNDV

Dear all,

CLM4 user guide mention the initial files after spin up conditions for CN (fully coupled and offline, 1850 & 2000) and offline CNDV for 1850 at different resolutions. But I am not sure of their actual file names and the directories they reside on bluefire. Can anybody tell me them or direct me to the pages they list the file names on user guide?

Dear Koichi,

I believe that if you create an "i" case using a corresponding CN compset (eg, for 1850), then the clm namelist will automatically point to the right initial file.

Similarly, if you modify the env_conf file to use cndv, again the clm namelist will automatically point to the right initial file.

Following your suggestion, I have tried a few times to run global offline CNDV (in cesm1.0.3) from 1850 condition on bluefire but the model did not initialize the vegetation part - soil carbons and litters are given from CN spun-up state, but for example, total vegetation carbon and vegetation cover start with zero.
Could you (or anyone) tell me where 1850 CNDV restart file(as mentioned in the CLM user guide) is, and/or how I can configure & set namelist variables so that the configure script obtain the restart file specifically for CNDV ?


When I configure as 'hybrid run' for I_1850_CN and , finidat is specified (in $casedir/Buildconf/clm.buildnml.csh) as

finidat = 'I1850CN_f19_g16_c100503.clm2.r.0001-01-01-00000.nc'
which I found in /glade/proj3/cseg/inputdata/ccsm4_init/

When I configure the same compset with cndv as 'startup' initial condition, then finidat is set as

finidat = '$DIN_LOC_ROOT/ccsm4_init/b40.1850.track1.2deg.003/year_401/b40.1850.track1.2deg.003.clm2.r.0401-01-01-00000.nc'


But in either case vegetation is not initilizaed and start from bare ground.


In the common data directories, I also found

$DIN_LOC_ROOT/lnd/clm2/initdata/clmi.IQCNDV.0201-01-01_1.9x2.5_gx1v6_simyr2000_c100316.nc

When I use this for finitdat for 'startup' run, then the vegetation variables are initialzed with non-zero values, presumably at the condition of the year 2000 from an off-line, Qian data (based on the file name) simulation. However, I cannot find the corresponding restart file for the year 1850.
