Initialization of a 1850-2000 run?

I want to start a few 1850-2000 transient simulations (compset B_1850-2000), all initialized from different years in an existing 1850 control run. Is it possible to have an exact restart from the control run and still reset the start date to 1850-01-01, or do I have to use the hybrid start option (without an exact restart) to reset the start date?

I think you need to do a hybrid run. From the point of view of CAM, a hybrid run is an initial run (i.e., it starts from an initial file rather than from a restart file). This is required to change the boundary datasets which is something you are doing when changing from an 1850 climatology run to a 20th century transient run.
