Is the monthly output of AREL in-cloud average of grid-box average?

Hi~I am looking at the monthly output of AREL in the Arctic. The value seems quite small. I wonder whether this monthly output from CAM5 is in-cloud average or grid-box average?I searched the archives and found this: http://www.cgd.ucar.edu/staff/andrew/diag_fields2.txtAWNC is marked as in-cloud but AREL isn't. So is it possible that the small AREL I see is caused by including zeros in the average?Thank you!

Sizes are not defined out of cloud, so AREL is an in-cloud average as well. If there is not much water, there may not be large particles. Hope that helps.
