Is there a way to directly turn off "urban" ?

Dear all,For some seasons I want to turn off urban type from CLM4_0 (replace urban type grids with bare ground maybe). Before trying modifying files/codes, I would like to ask if there is any way to directly achieve this?  Thanks!Best,
Duan

One way is to create a new surface dataset with urban percentage set to zero.  You could do this by setting urban to zero in the "mksrf_urban" file that is used as input to the surface dataset creation tool.  The code replaces urban fraction preferentially with bare ground.

Hi,I am also using CLM4.0 (in CESM1.2.2 with the F2000_CN compset with f09_f09 resolution) and tried setting the PCT_URBAN variable in the surfdata file to zero eveywhere. However now I get an error message stating that the land type percentages don't add up to a 100 at each grid point. What would be the best way to address this and/or is there another way to switch off the urban model? Thanks!

As previously posted, you will need to either create a new surface dataset with the mksurfdata tool, or add the pct_urban to the bare soil pft (or other pfts).
