missing one day in U200 of pre-industrial simulation (CESM-Large Ensemble)

Hi There!

I found one problem with the U200 daily data of pre-industrial simulation (CESM-Large Ensemble). It missed one day in the file named b.e11.B1850C5CN.f09_g16.005.cam.h1.U200.04020101-04991231.nc.

In this file, it should contain 98 years (35770 days) according to the filename 04020101-04991231. However, it only contains 35769 time steps. In contrast, the file 05000101-05991231 should contain 100 years (36500 days) and it does contain 36500 time steps. Therefore, the 04021010-04991231 file misses one day.

The problem is that ... which day is missing?

According to the the document (http://www.cesm.ucar.edu/projects/community-projects/LENS/CESM1-LENS_Access.pdf), the time variable for the monthly data is off by one month. I am not sure if the condition also applies to the daily data. For the U200 daily data, the first converted time step is 4020102 and the last is 4991231 for the first file (4020101-4991231), and the first converted time step is 5000102 and the last is 6000101 for the second file (5000101-5991231). If the daily data is off by one day, then the second file will be consistent with its filename while the first file misses the last time step(4991231).

However, I did not find a statement posted like the document above for monthly data. Therefore, I am not sure which day is actually missing and whether the daily data is off by one day as well. If anyone can provide any information/thoughts, it would be great! Thanks a lot in advance!

Cheers,

The timestamp indicated on the filename is incorrect. My apologies.

That data starts on 2 Jan 0402.[/QUOTE]

Hi Gary,

Thanks a lot for your quick reply!
I think the data might start on 1 Jan 0402 and ends on 30 Dec 0499 because the document (attached above) said that if the filename is not consistent with the time variable, we can use the time_bnds to verify.
The first timestamp for the first file is 42341 (corresponding to converted time 4020102), and the first time bounds for the first file is [42340 42341]. Therefore, if the time bounds is correct, then it should start from 4020101.
However, this rule is only illustrated for the monthly data in the document, I am not sure about the daily data. But I suspect that there may exist some similarities. What do you think? Thanks a lot!
