modify initial condition

Hello,everyone!
I am studying the affect of initial error on forecasting skills.
I need to add a small disturbance to the initial field U,V,T,Q.
Can this be done by modifying the cam restart file ***.cam.r****?
If not,what should l do?
Any help is appreciated!

We have the pertlim parameter which is a small perturbation to T. Otherwise, you might have to adjust the restart or initial file. I'm moving this to the CAM forum in case there are other suggestions.

Hello, I am currently running a case of 2000_CAM60_CLM50%BGC-CROP_CICE_POP2_MOSART_CISM2%NOEVOLVE_WW3 (called EXP1, as a control run). The EXP1 is expected to run for 10 years, and I want to output the restart file and cam's initial field (*.cam.i.*) for each year. EXP2 is a sensitivity run whose initial fields use the restart file from the EXP1 for a certain year (e.g. 0002-01-01 0005-01-01) to change some oceanic processes and see the differences in the developments of ENSO event. In the EXP1, I set REST_N=1, REST_OPTION=nyears, and DOUT_S_SAVE_INTERIM_RESTART_FILES=TRUE. But there is no corresponding *.cam.i.* file in the rest/ directory in the EXP1, only *.r.* files. In the EXP2, I set RUN_TYPE=hybrid, CONTINUE_RUN=FALSE, and copied files in EXP1/rest/0005-01-01 to EXP2/run/. The error is followed:
ERROR: GETFIL: FAILED to get EXP1.cam.i.0005-01-01-00000.nc
I would like to know how to output *.cam.i.* files in EXP1 for each year to eliminate the above error? Second, was there a problem with my steps to use the EXP1 restart file as the EXP2 initial field (especially in the env_run.xml entry setup mentioned above)?

Looking forward to your reply!

Hi,dbailey
l'm running a branch case, and the rpointer.atm points to a restart file B2000_AO_R2.cam.r.2011-10-13-00000.nc.
This shows that B2000_AO_R2.cam.r.2011-10-13-00000.nc will provide initial condition for CAM,right?
This means that I can add a small disturbance on the initial conditions as long as I modify this restart file. Can I understand in this way?
Looking forward to your reply!
Thank you!

You might have to do runtype = 'hybrid' with pertlim. Hopefully the CAM folks have more here.

I don't want to add perturbation by using different pertlim, but add perturbation with a specific structure, which produce in a special way.
