MONTHLY_LAI removed in ctsm 5.3 landuse.timeseries

Hi,

I’m currently using CTSM 5.3 and have noticed an issue with transient vegetation data: transient monthly LAI, SAI, and canopy top/bottom heights have been removed from the landuse.timeseries file. These vegetation indices now only appear in surfdata—a one-year static dataset.

I’ve also found documentation mentioning that transient vegetation data has been relocated for SP cases. However, my goal is to run simulations with transient vegetation in an IHIST case, similar to how this was configured in CLM 5.0.

Would really appreciate any advice.

@Fuhow I am pretty sure that you would find monthly LAI, SAI, htop, hbot in the fsurdat and not in the landuse file in all clm versions, not only 5.3. The reason is that we assign the same LAI, SAI, htop, hbot to pfts, even while such pfts move on Earth's surface.

Hi, dear @slevis , thanks for you answer my question again.

You’re absolutely right: indices like MONTHLY_LAI, SAI, htop, and hbot aren’t in the landuse.timeseries file, even in earlier CLM 5.0. That was just a mistake in my memory of how the data is structured before.

Thanks again for taking the time to help!
