More information about F2000climo needed

Hello all,

I recently got CESM working on Cheyenne and have run the F2000climo scientifically-supported compset successfully.
I need to be able to validate CESM against observational datasets (GPCP, ISCCP) to evaluate some microphysical changes I'm planning.

So, my questions are:
  1. Are the ICs for the F2000climo case from MERRA reanalysis?
  2. What is the start date for the ICs?
  3. I noticed on section 4 of the user guide that F2000climo is to be used for the 1995-2005 period. Should I only evaluate over that period?
Feel free to direct me, also, to the appropriate documentation.

Thank you very much!

1. Are the ICs for the F2000climo case from MERRA reanalysis?
=> The ICs condition are coming from a previous CAM simulation.

2. What is the start date for the ICs?
=> Look for the variable RUN_REFCASE and RUN_REFDATE in the file env_run.xml to see from which run the initial condition condition is coming and what year was used.

3. I noticed on section 4 of the user guide that F2000climo is to be used for the 1995-2005 period. Should I only evaluate over that period?
=> The goal of the F2000climo is to simulate a climate typically from the present-day period around the year 2000. For SST, CO2 dataset we use data from the period.

Thank you very much for these responses, Cecile.

So, then, could you point me to documentation regarding how to run CESM in a hindcast mode like one might do for a case study?

Thanks!

Unfortunately - as far as I know - that documentation doesn't exist yet
