Perturbing FC2010Climo for Emission Scenario Simulations

Hi everyone,

I am currently working with CESM2.1.3 using the MOSAIC scheme. My setup includes the compset FC2010Climo with a resolution of f19_f19_mg17. I aim to simulate the period from 2015 to 2050 to investigate how changes in emissions will influence future conditions. Specifically, I have modified the nitrogen-related emission data in SSP245 and updated the LBC file accordingly.

I‘m considering whether it would be necessary to perturb the model in a manner similar to an ensemble approach. If perturbation is required, could anyone advise on how many times I should perturb the model?

Thank you so much for your assistance!

Best regards,
Zoey

Thank you for raising this issue. I was wondering the same thing in designing my experiment. For historical experiments, such as FHIST, BSSP, etc., perturbation experiments are needed to minimize the effect of natural variability. Generally more than 10 ensemble members (10 perturbations) are needed. But I am not sure if such perturbations are also needed for climate equilibrium state experiments like F2010Climo.
